Minimising uncertainty in seismic time-depth conversion in Velocity ManagerUncertainty in the results of a depth conversion of a seismic time grid is an issue of concern, yet often the depth conversion procedures and techniques significantly and needlessly contribute to the uncertainty in the depth conversion velocity. Velocity Manager is founded on original research and development of numerical techniques to replace those is common use within the industry. In total some 26 different numerical processes were researched and developed, each of which is designed to replace old and inaccurate processes that are still commonly used. Somewhat alarmingly these processes are used multiple times within each velocity layer within the depth conversion, and cumulative improvement to accuracy can be very substantial. Velocity Manager is designed to avoid such hidden pitfalls in the velocity modelling and depth conversion of seismic times. |
